Guide
Fix the black frame at the end of a Premiere Pro export
The export looks fine in the timeline, but the file ends on a flash of black. Clients notice it straight away, especially on looping platforms like TikTok and Reels, where the black shows every time the video loops.
What usually causes it
- Something on another track runs past the last shot: an adjustment layer, a graphic, a caption, a music tail or an empty title.
- The export range or the sequence Out point is a frame or more past the last shot.
- A dip-to-black or cross dissolve sits on the very last edit.
How to find it
- Press End in the timeline to jump to the very end of the sequence, and look at what's still there on every track, audio and captions included.
- Zoom right in on the last edit and step through it frame by frame.
- Check the export range in Export settings. Entire Sequence includes everything up to the last item on any track.
How to stop it happening again
- Set an Out point on the last frame of the last shot and export with the range set to Sequence In/Out.
- Trim adjustment layers and graphics to the end of the picture.
- Check the exported file, not the timeline. This checker fails a file that ends on black and shows you the frame.
Check your export in seconds
Drop in the file and get a pass/fail list for size, loudness, safe zones, and black and flash frames. It runs in your browser, so the video is never uploaded.
